PBIS/PAX
Our district believes introducing, modeling, and reinforcing positive social behavior is an important step of a student's educational experience. Teaching behavioral expectations and rewarding students for following them is a much more positive approach than waiting for misbehavior to occur before responding. The purpose of implementing a school wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm, positively impacts student outcomes and academic success.
Kirkersville Elementary prides ourselves as a PAX Building. PAX Good Behavior Game (PAX GBG) is an evidence based, flexible recipe for classrooms that enhances immediate and lifetime academic and social-emotional-behavioral outcomes for all students in the classroom. All of this is done through the use of the PAX GBG Support Strategies that produce robust effects that empower teachers, students, and others to be the heroes of change.
Our most used PAX Support Strategy is the PAX Vision. Desired behaviors will be established by using the PAX VISION framework to encourage students to show the 4 PAX expectations (peace, productivity, health, and happiness). They tap into internal motivation and foster commitment rather than only compliance. Expectations need to be taught, retaught and practiced or amended if not followed.

Every month Kirkersville meets with a small group of staff members for a PBIS meeting. The team looks at data, a tiered fidelity inventory, and staff feedback to make the best decisions for our current students at Kirkersville. We look forward to continuing our growth in the 2022-2023 school year as we meet our new students and make informed decisions based off our newest learning community.
